SOLE and Cycling Frequently asked questions Why use SOLE Custom Footbeds in a cycling shoe?
To improve your performance
For the prevention and treatment of lower limb issues
So you can finally get cycling shoes that fit properly and are actually
comfortable rather than getting shoes that are too small in an effort to reduce movement in your shoe.
Comfort is good! Improved performance comes from: - The reduction of movement inside the shoe Keeps your entire foot in contact with the shoe and pedal so power and energy is not lost - Even weight distribution of pressure across the entire foot to reduce stress points and protect your feet from early fatigue - Keeps the kinetic chain lined up foot, ankle, knee, hip Will help with joint issues and will again assist in delivering power to the pedal efficiently Which SOLE for Cycling Shoes? Cycling shoes come in a wide variety of shapes, some with or without removable insoles, can often be very narrow and a size UK 9 isnt always a UK 9. If the cycling shoe has some kind of insole, take it out and compare it to the removable insole in your trainers. Use your trainers as your measure of a standard UK size. Now, how much room is in your cycling shoe? Again use your trainers as a comparison. Off-road cycling shoes may have the same room as your trainers and the SOLE Ultra can be chosen which has the thickest layer of cushioning (3.2mm). Most road bike shoes have less room and selecting the SOLE Regular is a better choice. For those REALLY tight shoes, the SOLE Slim will do the trick This SOLE is extremely thin, has no cushioning layer yet retains a full orthotic level of support and benefit of the other SOLE footbeds.
Please state size when ordering: 8.5 - 9, 9.5 -10, 10.5 - 11, 11.5 - 12, 12.5 - 13
We recommed that you order the smaller size for cycling shoes i.e size 10 shoe - size 9 insole.
Preheat your conventional oven 90 degrees Celsius Once you are sure the SOLE is the right size for your shoe, place them in the oven. Wait approximately 2 minutes The silver thermal dot/sticker on the bottom of one of the footbeds will turn black when ready. Place the SOLE in the shoe, ensuring it is centred properly, flat and not folded over in the toe area. Put the shoes on and lace up Stand up - and assume a weight bearing neutral position as below feet shoulder width apart pointing straight forward Bend the knees slightly - line up the centre toe (the one next to your big toe) with the centre of your knee now stand up straight Wait for about 1 minute for the footbed to form and cool You are now done, happy trails or roads As with any orthotic support, you may require a break-in period for your feet to adjust to the new level of support. The SOLE footbed can also be reheated up to 5 times so after using them, if you think a slight adjustment is necessary on one or both footbeds simply repeat the heat fit step. You do not have to reheat Your SOLEs for use in other shoes
